#1 Trending in YouTube-What does that actually mean?

I’m Trending #1 on YouTube.

If someone says this, what’s your first thought?

#1 trending in…
Chennai?
Hyderabad?
Delhi?
All of India? (Let me know in the comments)

Yesterday, I opened YouTube from two different accounts.

Same house, same WiFi.

But the trending page, Completely different on both accounts.

I was like 😳.

Some people might already know this. I didn’t.

So I dug deeper and found out its because of personalization.

I know this is what happens on the feed. But not on trending page.

It isn’t the same for everyone.

It changes based on your watch history, language preference, and engagement.

Makes sense now. I use two accounts for different purposes.

Even if I never set the language to Tamil, YouTube’s AI picks up on what I watch and curates the page accordingly.

That’s when it hit me.

When someone says “I’m #1 on Trending,” it doesn’t necessarily mean the entire country sees it that way.

They might see it on their trending page and assume it’s the same for everyone.

If that is the case how can they even say it?

Even two people in the same city can see different trending videos based on their behavior.

Now that I’m thinking, if I see #1 TRENDING in a thumbnail, the question should be,

How? Where? To Whom?

Did you know this before?

Spread the love
